ode to insomnia

in dreams we linger long and torn from them by waking we are left with loss and gummy eyes

drawn down in sleep to places unknown to waking hours and sometimes wish for coffee

clamour busy day and routine so depraved without respite we take lunch at our desk

needs of modern life so pressing and peace so fleeting without wonder we seek chemical refuge

relationships regimented and obligations carried like stones but knowing ourselves we carry on

solace of first purpose a fading reward

Makes you question the modern life. In the pursuit of more, have we reduced our lives to something less? Or is statement that less is more in actuality a definite truism? That in the pursuit of less, our lives become simpler and less stressful? That less means we experience more and that on our death beds we have no regrets? That those we leave behind will remember us as people who cared about them, instead of all the crap of the world in the form of stuff and material possessions. The past five years of my life have been a quest for simplicity. Less being more.

This is my absolute favourite line:

relationships regimented and obligations carried like stones but knowing ourselves we carry on
